My friends and I went to the state fair, and volunteered by cleaning up trash. We also wore free hugs shirts. It is amazing how much a hug can brighten someones day!
I celebrated Global Youth Service Day by gathering together kids in the club I started at my high school, Amnesty International, and we made bag lunches to deliver to the homeless downtown. We drove to downtown St. Paul, and went to an area by the Salvation Army, where there are many homeless people who are living with barely anything. We handed out the bag lunches, and then spent sometime talking to them, sometimes just listening and giving our time to those less fortunate can mean the world to someone.
If you were the mayor, what changes would you make in your community?
If I were the mayor, I would try to reduce the pollution in the community, by having days that support riding bikes, rollerblading, or just walking places. I would place recycling bins on corners, so no one has an excuse not to recycle. I would also promote and support giving meals to the less fortuate, and telling the community to reach out to those and need, because if one person does something kind and out of the ordinary, a chain reaction of good deeds will occur. This would make the community a all around better place to live.
What are the 7 Things or problems in the world you want to help solve?
1. Hunger in underdeveloped countries.
2. The lack of respect for the environment.
3. The lack of respect for elders.
4. Education for kids in inner cities, and countries that can not afford good education.
5. Racial profiling, and unfair treatment based on race/gender.
6. Poverty in underdeveloped countries.
7. The lack of medical help in underdevelped countries.
Short "About Me" section
In August 2009, I went on a Mission Trip to Los Angeles. It really changed my outlook on life, and helped me to relize that each person can make a difference in the world. I relized that by just being kind and thankful, and recognizing those who are usually ignored (homeless, janiors, disabled), can really make an impact on the world. I am a member of many clubs at school; some including synergy(environment club) and amnesty (world issue awareness club). By being actively involved in many activites, I try to stay involved in my community and make any difference, even if it is small, that I can.
Everyone gets in tough situations in their life. The situations that homeless people are in are obviously a little more difficult than most peoples everyday problems. I took a day and packed bag lunches for the homeless people in downtown St. Paul. My friends and I went down to an area where they usually gather to relax and get off of the street corners. It is so heart warming to see how truly grateful each person is. After giving them the meals we actually stayed and talked to them! They have… Continue
Just a simple gesture like a hug can brighten someones day! At the Minnesota State Fair my friends and I volunteered by picking up trash for a day. We also wore free hugs shirts. Once one stranger gave us a hug, a chain reaction started. Love is fire, and a simple gesture like a hug can be so meaningful!…
