For the August blog topic of the month, I asked all the Get Ur Good On users to share ways they can or have helped with the oil spill in the Gulf. The oil spill may not be on the news everyday anymore, but there is still work that needs to be done. Here are some ways that users suggested you can do to Get Ur Good On
for the oil spill:
1. Encourage your parents or guardians to buy Dawn dish soap: For every specially marked package of Dawn sold, they will donate $1 to organizations helping clean animals affected by the oil spill. Read Samantha’s blog for more info: http://www.geturgoodon.org/profiles/blogs/you-can-help-the-oil-spill
2. Buy a t-shirt or necklace from “I Helped Clean Up The Gulf”: $5 from every purchase goes directly to charities like Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research who are doing work in the Gulf. Read Nadia’s blog for more info: http://www.geturgoodon.org/profiles/blogs/help-clean-up-the-gulf-by...
3. Volunteer to help clean animals: If you live in any of the areas directly affected by the oil spill, you can volunteer to help clean animals. Use a search engine to find animal shelters in your area, call to ask if they’re helping clean animals, and if you can volunteer. You can also find other volunteer opportunities on the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana and The Gulf of Mexico Sea Grants program sites. Katie helped clean animals, read her blog post: http://www.geturgoodon.org/profiles/blogs/oil-spill-3
4. Spread the word about Save The Gulf Now: This is a news and blog community dedicated to preserving the wildlife and human lives affected by the BP Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Disaster. Help inform your friends and family that the people and animals in the Gulf still need help by posting info from SaveTheGulfNow.org on your Facebook page or by joining their Causes page.
