Get Ur Good On

During his recent trip to Europe, President Barack Obama said, ""I think if you're only thinking about yourself, your life becomes diminished, and the way to live a full life is to think about what can I do for others, how can I be a part of this larger project of making a better world."

As the president of Youth Service America, I continue to be amazed by how Miley is dedicating her life to "making a better world."

Sometimes I wonder how Miley handles the pressures of growing up in the public eye. She is followed everywhere. Her every move is scrutinized. And yet she continues to possess humility, grace, and humor.

Some young celebrities choose to express themselves by doing dumb things they think will make them look older. Miley is taking a different course by deciding to be a leader at a young age.

I live and work only blocks from the White House, and it's great to have a President and First Lady who understand that young people are not future leaders; we need them as leaders today! The problems facing the world are too big for us to wait until children and youth grow up before they start tackling them.

We're delighted to have Miley helping us encourage more young people around the world to participate in Global Youth Service Day. She'll be on this site checking out the videos, photos, and projects you are posting. Don't be surprised if she shows up at your door to thank you personally, or to invite you to a service project she's doing in your town!

As Miley says in her video, Happy Global Youth Service Day!

Steve!!

I applaud your work!! You are in a very special position to change the world.

There is no question in my mind that the youth of today will indeed have a positive impact on the world unlike any generation in the history of the world.

I just came from teaching high school students and teachers at St. Gabriel's College in Bangkok. Here is what I observed.

1. They idolize youth from the USA
2. They study very hard
3. There is very little use of drugs or alcohol
4. They have a tremendous respect for their elders
5. They are very happy and giggle a lot
6. They are so appreciative of living each day in a changing world where the world is becoming flat
7. They have so much hope for the world

One of my dreams is for youth from the U.S.A. to be models for the world.

As Miley said in one of her interviews... what her father wanted her to be when she was 30... was HAPPY.

Another of my dreams is that people as a whole on the earth collectively become more happy, healthy and whole.

Steve, your organization, YSA. can have a significant role.

We must talk!!!! I have a dream that only you and the terrific young people on this site can help me with.

Miley, you are so selfless and a great role model. I just hope it's not all media because my mom always says you never know what's going on behind closed doors, but I'm still a HUGE fan! I freak out whenever she is on TV, ask my brother he says that I'm just plain weird lol. Anyway, I try to do whatever I can to help the environment and other people. I would never be as great of a person as Miley is though.

This is soo inspiring. The fact that she's working to be a good example makes me want to be a good example to people younger than me and my peers as well.
