During his recent trip to Europe, President Barack Obama said, ""I think if you're only thinking about yourself, your life becomes diminished, and the way to live a full life is to think about what can I do for others, how can I be a part of this larger project of making a better world."
As the president of
Youth Service America, I continue to be amazed by how Miley is dedicating her life to "making a better world."
Sometimes I wonder how Miley handles the pressures of growing up in the public eye. She is followed everywhere. Her every move is scrutinized. And yet she continues to possess humility, grace, and humor.
Some young celebrities choose to express themselves by doing dumb things they think will make them look older. Miley is taking a different course by deciding to be a leader at a young age.
I live and work only blocks from the White House, and it's great to have a President and First Lady who understand that young people are not future leaders; we need them as leaders
today! The problems facing the world are too big for us to wait until children and youth grow up before they start tackling them.
We're delighted to have Miley helping us encourage more young people around the world to participate in Global Youth Service Day. She'll be on this site checking out the videos, photos, and projects you are posting. Don't be surprised if she shows up at your door to thank you personally, or to invite you to a service project she's doing in your town!
As Miley says in her video, Happy Global Youth Service Day!
