Hey guys!
I don't know if you've seen my video, Love Me For Who I Am, here on GetUrGoodOn, but it was a project I ran for about a month and it ended up with over 1,OOO views on YouTube and a look of positive feedback.
This created an idea. A little, non-profit organization I am setting up called Inspire. Our latest video is on an issue that I have experienced a lot of in my life- Bullying.
Bullying is a big issue worldwide. It has affected so many people and sometimes the affects have ended up causing some horrible things to happen- from self harm to actually committing suicide. Nobody should have to deal with bullying. It has always been an issue I’ve had to deal with and so I’ve decided to create our next video on bullying. Nearly everyone has experienced or witnessed some form of bullying.
This video is for people- whoever wishes to participate- to come forward and share their views, experiences, anything related to bullying and how it has such an impact on people's lives. Two participants have agreed to share their stories with us, providing we keep them anonymous. One will be in the completed video and the other will be in the article which will be written up and put alongside the video. Here is a snippet of the story just so you can get an insight of what to expect...
"I’ve always been a bit ‘weird’, I’ll be the first to admit it, and it’s definitely no secret. When I was younger I didn’t even realise it, truth be known. People would whisper, call me names, deliberately exclude me and I just happily went along with my life, not batting an eyelid. It was a lot easier not knowing, and I only realised that I was bullied through Primary school when my mother mentioned it in an off-hand manner a few years ago.
No, as far as I was concerned, the bullying began when I reached Comprehensive school. That’s the general trend, isn’t it? All that change, someone needs to play the victim. And so, as it happened, one of those victims was me. Bit of a know-it-all, more than a bit chubby, and with my best friend barely in school, I was something of an easy target.
It starts off as it normally does, just the odd comment from some pig-headed boy, a cruel laugh from an eleven year old bitch-in-the-making. Nothing that I wasn’t used to, and nothing that I really noticed. It only really became a problem when it started coming from one of the few friends I’d managed to make..."
To read the rest of this true story, keep checking back my GetUrGoodOn page and even get involved with the video.
How do you get involved? It's pretty simple. All you have to do is take a photo of yourself about bullying. This can be really creative- whether you're holding a sign, have a speech bubble coming out of your mouth, re-enacting a scene of common bullying, etc. For more info check out the Facebook Inspire Page.
Deadline is May 31 so please please please enter!
Love you guys!
Keep Smiling, Keep Dreaming, Keep Believing,
