Get Ur Good On to Address Youth Homelessness

Nearly 1.7 million people under the age of 18 will experience homelessness this year. Miley Cyrus, Get Ur Good On, and YSA want to help young people raise awareness and address youth homelessness. Youth homelessness is an issue Miley is very passionate about, she has donated clothing to a family shelter in Los Angeles for several years. Last year, she was deeply moved after viewing the HBO documentary “Homeless: The Motel Kids of Orange County” and encourages people to view the documentary to learn about youth homelessness. Join Miley in helping young people like you receive a warm meal, a bed to sleep in, and safety. Get Ur Good On to address youth homelessness in November. View the list here and below. Upload videos, pictures, and blogs posts to the site. Tag everything you do with "Good4YH" Share musical talents with guests at a local youth homeless shelter. Volunteer to teach singing, piano, guitar, or other musical lessons. Ask friends and classmates to help raise awareness about youth homelessness in your community. Start a StandUp For Kids-Don’t Run Away Club in school. LeAnn Rimes and the band Switchfoot both support this amazing organization. Raise awareness about youth homelessness and share facts on Facebook, Twitter, or write a blog post. Find facts on Do Something and the National Coalition for the Homeless. Participate in Covenant House’s annual Candlelight Vigil for Homeless Youth on November 16th. Find a location. No vigils near you? Host one or join a virtual vigil. Host a youth homelessness summit. Invite employees of a youth homeless shelter or youth feeding program and a young person they work with to speak at school or a community recreation center. You can also request a speaker on the National Coalition for the Homeless’ website. Do the “Homeless Challenge Project” to become familiar with the realities and hardships of homelessness. During this challenge, participants empty their wallets, and spend time on the streets as homeless people. Make sure to get parental permission and find more information here. Love math, history, or science? Volunteer to tutor homeless youth. Search for a Schools on Wheels in your community. Host a fundraiser for Re*Generation, an initiative of Virgin Mobile and Virgin Unite. It connects people with organizations working to help homeless youth. Organize a clothing drive and collect gently used clothing, shoes, and winter coats to donate to a local shelter. Ask friends and family members to help spread the word about the drive. National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 12 – 20.
