- How did you celebrate Global Youth Service Day?
- Well, since I'm the president of Youth Service America, and we have organized Global Youth Service Day since 1988, I will be visiting and volunteering at projects in Washington, DC on Friday. On Saturday, I'll be in New York City celebrating GYSD at a seminar with young people about the environment at Macy's Department Store on 34th Street. I will also be visiting the "Boot Camp" for service that my friends at Do Something are organizing!
- If you were the mayor, what changes would you make in your community?
- I would make sure that kids in Washington, DC had the best teachers, the best schools, and the best opportunities to help make Washington (our nation's capital!) a safe, healthy, and fun place to live.
- What are the 7 Things or problems in the world you want to help solve?
- 1. Literacy
2. Childhood disease
3. Poverty
4. Equal rights regardless of who you are
5. Environmental degradation
6. Nutrition
7. Water scarcity

- I'm the president and CEO of Youth Service America. I have the amazing job of helping young people find their voice, take action, and have impact on problems facing them personally, communally, and globally.
My adage is that youth are not the hope of tomorrow; they are the hope of today! We need their energy, commitment, idealism, and creativity today!

10 Things You Can Do To Fight Global Climate Change
Thanks to our friends at the Environmental Defense Fund, please follow these easy steps to fight global climate change:
1. Recycle and buy minimally packaged goods as much as possible.
2. Wash clothes in cold or warm water; not hot.
3. Install low-flow shower heads (Home Depot and Lowe's have them) to use less water.
4. Run the dishwasher only when it's full and don't use heat cycle to dry dishes.

Miley Cyrus movie to be shot in Savannah

ATLANTA (AP) -- The governor's office in Georgia says the Disney movie "The Last Song," starring Miley Cyrus, will be filmed in Savannah this summer.
Georgia had been contending with North Carolina for the film, which the governor's office says will bring about 250 jobs to the state.
The script is by novelist Nicholas Sparks, and Julie Anne Robinson will direct. Shooting is expected to begin in June.

Sharon Smith announces the Brower Youth Awards for the Environment ($3,000)
We're just over a month away from the deadline for this year's Brower Youth Awards.
A recap: we give six young environmental leaders (ages 13-22) a $3000 cash award and week long trip in October to the San Francisco Bay Area. Awardees do media interviews, speak at local high schools and Bioneers, and are celebrated at a public awards ceremony. After October, we support our honorees as environmental change agents, writers, organizers, visionaries, and speakers.

- I am from boston, but i would travel to CT for sure.
I get my good on by:
*Unpluging things from walls not being used
*Not letting the water drip
*Make recycling easier by putting recycle bins in
the rooms where you use the product
*Use both sides of your paper.
* Restrict use of plastic shopping bags
*Purchase products that are recycled. Make sure it says "recycled."
*Trying to avoid using disposable products at all.
*buying in bulk.
*Use rechargeable batteries
*Recycle your ink and toner cartridges
*Buy organically-grown food.
*Plant a tree (i tried)
